Lenticular cloud in front of the setting sun

N’en déplaise aux amateurs d’E.T, il ne sagit pas d’on O.V.N.I mais bel et bien d’un phénomène naturel

Without wanting to disappoint fans of Extra Terrestrials, this is not a U.F.O but it is indeed a natural phenomenon.

An altocumulus lenticularis or lenticular cloud is one of the species of stationary altocumulus in the shape of an airplane wing profile that is found downstream of the tops of leeward mountains, indicating the presence of a jump or a wave orographic.

In reality, it is constantly reforming on the windward side and dissolving on the other side, making a stationary cloud contrasting with the strong horizontal wind at this altitude which should move it quickly. Lenticularis can also be found in other cloud families, including high altitude cirrocumulus lenticularis and low altitude stratocumulus lenticularis, depending on the level at which the wave occurs at their source.
