The film tells the story of Thomas de Frémont, a nine-year-old boy who loves action film heroes who has turned his house into a “playground” with traps and installations, alert and very technically gifted, but who still believes in Santa Claus. To prove his existence to himself and to his best friend, who like other children their age no longer believes in it, he installs a very elaborate camera system in the family mansion for the eve of December 25, in order to to film the arrival of Santa Claus despite his mother’s warning who, to dissuade him and avoid spoiling a surprise for him, invents a story for him about Santa Claus who would change into an « ogre » when the children try to surprise him.

Because she has to work longer that night, the child is forced to spend Christmas Eve alone with her partially blind and diabetic grandfather in their home. Using the Minitel in the presence of his friend, Thomas talks with an unknown person who claims to be the real Santa Claus.
