Sodome et Gomorrhe (en hébreu סְדוֹם ועֲמֹרָה / Səḏōm w ʿĂmōrāh) sont des villes mentionnées dans la Bible. La tradition biblique les situe au sud de la mer Morte, dans l’actuelle Jordanie, mais leur localisation reste incertaine.
D’après le récit biblique, Sodome où réside Loth, parent d’Abraham, et la ville voisine de Gomorrhe sont détruites par le soufre et le feu, victimes de la colère divine, pour des péchés dont la nature est débattue — les commentateurs évoquent l’orgueil, l’inhospitalité, l’abus sexuel ou encore l’homosexualité — épargnant toutefois Loth et les siens. Le Coran évoque la destruction de la « cité de Loth » et des « villes renversées » sans nommer celles-ci.

Conform relatării biblice, Sodoma, unde locuiește Lot, ruda lui Avraam, și orașul Gomora din apropiere sunt distruse de pucioasă și foc, victime ale mâniei divine, pentru păcatele a căror natură este contestată – comentatorii se referă la mândrie, inospitalitate, abuz sexual sau chiar și homosexualitatea – cruțându-l totuși pe Lot și familia lui. Coranul se referă la distrugerea „orașului Lot” și a „orașelor răsturnate”, fără a le numi.

According to the biblical account, Sodom, where Abraham’s kinsman Lot dwelt, and the nearby city of Gomorrah were destroyed by brimstone and fire, victims of divine wrath, for sins the nature of which is disputed—commentators point to pride, inhospitality, sexual abuse or even homosexuality – sparing however Lot and his family. The Quran refers to the destruction of the « city of Lot » and the « overthrown cities » without naming these.
